According to a new report released today by McGraw Hill Construction in partnership with Waste Management, entitled Green Retail and Hospitality SmartMarket Report: Capitalizing on the Growth in Green Building Investments, owners of retail and hotel establishments are reporting growing levels of green building activity planned over the next two years. The report is based on a study of 79 retail, 30 hotel and 22 restaurant owners conducted in 2013 by McGraw Hill Construction.
Driven by rising home prices and growing demand, the U.S. housing recovery is well underway, concludes The State of the Nation's Housing report released today by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. While still at historically low levels, housing construction has finally turned the corner, giving the economy a much-needed boost. But even as the recovery gains momentum, millions of homeowners are still delinquent on their mortgages or owe more than their homes are worth, and severe housing cost burdens have set a new record.
Through 2017, global demand for windows and doors is expected to rise 7.1 percent annually to $223 billion, significantly exceeding the growth rate of the 2007-2012 period, according to a new study from the Freedonia Group Inc. Growth will be driven by recoveries in the building construction markets of many developed countries, although gains will be somewhat exaggerated by a weak 2012 base, particularly in the U.S.
Five Individuals Indicted and Arrested for Conspiracy to Smuggle Goods into the United States and Money Laundering
Yesterday, a Federal grand jury returned a three-count indictment against five individuals and three companies for conspiracy to smuggle goods into the United States, and conspiracy to commit money laundering, announced Rosa Emilia Rodríguez-Vélez, United States Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico. The investigation was conducted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Department of Homeland Security (HIS) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Import Specialist Branch.
Aluminum Extruders Council and Aluminum Association Announce Extrusion Shipments and End Uses for 2012

The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) and The Aluminum Association, Inc. (AAI) today released industry estimates of aluminum extrusion shipments in North America by major market for 2012. AEC and AAI have collaborated on reporting annual end use figures since 1999, resulting in a more accurate account of extrusion shipments, end uses, and value of the industry.
Sales of newly built, single-family homes rose for a third consecutive month in May, posting a 2.1 percent gain to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 476,000 units, according to data released by HUD and the U.S. Census Bureau today. This is the fastest sales pace recorded since July of 2008.
